Interview Tips for Postdocs
Job interviews are a critical step in the hiring process. If employers invite you to interview, it means they liked what they saw in your resume, CV, letters, research statement, etc. An interview allows you and the employer to meet and assess each other.
In an interview, the employer will evaluate your:
- abilities and skills that match the job requirements
- personal attributes
- enthusiasm to work for this employer in this position
- short- and long-term goals
To prepare for job interviews, schedule a practice interview with your advisor, faculty in your department or the director of postdoctoral studies. Simulating the interview can help you develop responses to questions and heighten awareness of your body language. You can have your interview videotaped to help you analyze your performance.
